About

Arita Bohannan is one of Jefferson Parish’s most sought-after domestic law attorneys. With a career rooted in service and advocacy, Arita Bohannan has dedicated her life to helping others—whether in the courtroom, at the council table, or in the community. Known for her integrity and compassionate leadership, Arita brings both legal expertise and real-world experience to her public service.

Arita earned her Juris Doctor from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, graduating with certificates in both Common and International Law. She began her legal journey clerking for the Orleans Parish District Attorney and later working with the Indigent Defender Board as a clinical student in law school. She went on to establish Bohannan & Associates (now Bohannan, Mayer, & Associates), a firm focused primarily on family law, and she later founded the Mediation Clinic of Louisiana to provide families with peaceful, cost-effective alternatives to litigation.

Deeply involved in civic and professional organizations, Arita is an active member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, Jefferson Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the EJBA, the Jefferson Chamber, the LFRW and various other professional organizations. She is also a founding board member of the River Region Republican Women and has been on the boards of multiple nonprofits supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Through these roles, she has provided countless hours of pro bono legal services and community outreach.

Arita’s passion for inclusion and accessibility inspired her and her husband to establish Anthony’s Missing Pieces Playground, Louisiana’s first fully inclusive play space for children of all abilities located near the heart of Kenner in Holly Heights’ Miguez Park. The park is designed for people on the spectrum, with sensory, mental and/or physical disabilities.

Raised an Army brat, Mrs. Bohannan was the victim of childhood sexual abuse. Her personal story, paired with her love of the law, has provided her with a unique perspective that enhances her writing and speaking. Her novel, Docket No. 76, based loosely on her own sexual assault, has won an Indie Book Award for the Thriller Division. It was also a Finalist in the 1st Time Author Division and also won the National Indie Excellence Award in the Thriller/Suspense Division. Arita has been invited to speak at numerous events including several Key Note Addresses at Military Bases, schools, organizations and symposiums. Her speeches, while ever changing and topic specific, deliver a powerful and inspirational message.

A proud resident of Kenner, Arita lives with her husband Brad and their two sons, Deuce and Bryce. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, writing, and supporting her children in their pursuits. Her leadership is guided by faith, family, and an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of those she serves whether through public service or in the courtroom.
